Most reviews of this device fall into one of two camps. Either they’re written by someone earning a commission and everything is wonderful, or they’re written by someone who assumes any beauty gadget is nonsense and dismisses the whole category.
Both are wrong, and the truth is more useful than either.
Red and near-infrared LED therapy is a legitimate technology with published clinical evidence behind it. Not miraculous, not instant, but real and measurable. We’ll go through that evidence properly in the next section, because you should know what the ceiling actually looks like.

Yes — within limits that are worth understanding precisely, because the limits are where the marketing and the evidence part company.
The mechanism is called photobiomodulation. It’s not heat, and it isn’t UV — this is not a tanning technology and it doesn’t damage DNA the way ultraviolet exposure does.

Three things jump out of that table, and all three are commercially inconvenient.
First, the wavelengths are specific. Roughly 600–660 nm and 800–860 nm are the ranges that keep appearing. A device glowing red isn’t automatically delivering therapeutic wavelengths — that’s a specification you should be able to read, not infer from the colour.
Second, the time commitment is substantial. Thirty sessions across fifteen weeks. Twelve weeks in the 660 nm study. This is not a fortnight to visible results, and any pitch implying otherwise is contradicting the evidence it’s borrowing credibility from.
Third, the outcomes are real but modest. Better tone, improved elasticity, measurably more collagen, softer fine lines. That’s a worthwhile change. It is not a facelift, and it won’t do what a filler or a laser resurfacing does.

The Perfectio Plus is a handheld skincare device from Zero Gravity. On the face of it, that’s a coherent product description. Red LED plus near-infrared is exactly the combination the trials support, so the underlying concept isn’t dubious.
What’s harder to establish is the detail that would let you judge it against the research:
- Exact wavelengths, so you can check them against the 600–660 nm and 800–860 nm ranges the studies used.
- Irradiance — the power delivered per unit area, which determines how long a session needs to be. This is the specification most consumer devices omit, and it matters enormously.
- Treatment area. A handheld device covers a small patch at a time. The trials generally used panels treating the whole face at once, so a handheld requires substantially more of your time to deliver a comparable dose.
- Clinical testing of this specific device, as distinct from the general modality.
Evidence for a technology is not evidence for a product. Trials that used specific wavelengths at specific intensities for specific durations tell you the approach can work. They don’t tell you that a given device replicates those parameters — and if the seller won’t publish the parameters, nobody can check. What “FDA-cleared Class II” actually means
This phrase does an enormous amount of work in beauty-device marketing, and most people read it as “the FDA tested this and confirmed it works.” That is not what it means, and the difference is worth understanding properly — it applies to every device you’ll ever consider, not just this one.
Cleared is not approved
FDA clearance comes through the 510(k) pathway used for Class II devices. To obtain it, a manufacturer must show its device is substantially equivalent to a device already legally on the market — a “predicate” device. The focus is on demonstrating the new device is at least as safe and effective as the existing one.
FDA approval is a different and far more demanding process, typically for higher-risk Class III devices. It requires clinical evidence that the device is safe and effective and that benefits outweigh risks.
Here’s the detail that reframes the whole thing: a predicate device can be one that was legally marketed before May 28, 1976 — for which clinical testing was not required at all. So a device can be cleared by resembling something that itself was never rigorously tested.

The $8,999-to-$1,200 account is worth dwelling on, because it’s a textbook demonstration of price anchoring. An implausibly high opening figure is stated, then dramatically reduced, and the reduction feels like a windfall. The final price gets judged against the anchor rather than against what the product is worth. Landing at $1,200 feels like winning — right up until you discover comparable devices at a small fraction of it.
